Welcome to The Gallery

Established in 1993, the Robert Bowman Gallery deals in European Sculpture from the late 19th Century to the 1950’s, and we pride ourselves on being the leading dealers in works by Auguste Rodin.

In 2008, after ten years of trading from No. 8 Duke Street, St James’s, we decided to close the gallery space, catering for our clients’ preferences for a private setting. We can be contacted at Robert Bowman Modern, at no. 34 Duke Street, St James’s, however viewing of specific works is strictly by appointment.

Robert Bowman began his career in the art world at Sotheby’s, becoming Director of European Works of Art; after 15 years he left to open his own gallery. Robert is an appointed expert of the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA), on behalf of the UK Government, Acceptance in Lieu Scheme, and he has been on the TEFAF Sculpture Vetting Committee for the past 15 years.

The gallery has exhibited at international art-fairs, and will, in 2008, be exhibiting for the 13th consecutive year at TEFAF Maastricht. Over the years the gallery has placed works in numerous museums and private collections world-wide. Robert is happy to consult with curators and collectors.

Our first collaboration with the Fine Art Society, presenting a collection of works by Alfred Gilbert and other members of the English New School of sculpture went very well. The exhibition officially ended on the the 4th July but many works remained on show in the glorious Fine Art Society Galleries. We also managed to acquire several more works as enthusiasm for the New School as a whole generated collectors wanting to sell works as well as buy them. Sales were numerous and included several purchases by Museums, including The National Gallery of Australia, Leighton House and The Huntington Library and Museum.
